Can you imagine life without facebook, twitter, smart phones, even emails and fixed phones (for the more mature). Instant communication is a must in our society but I sometimes wonder how Mary and Joseph felt when Jesus was born and they had no way of telling anyone about the birth of their first baby, let alone his being the longed- for Messiah.
Forget modern technology - that's so yesterday. How would you react to an angel telling you the latest news followed by heavenly singers to back up the headlines? Or what about a star instead of a GPS to give you directions?
God used some amazing phenomenon that first Christmas to tell the humble local shepherds and the wise men from afar of the birth of a Saviour for all people. Somehow, the shepherds reading twitter or the wise men learning on facebook of the birth of a great king just doesn't create that wonder and majesty which is all part of the birth of God's son, Jesus.
Yet again, God shows in no uncertain terms that he isn't limited in what he wants to achieve. As the angel told Mary, "nothing is impossible for God".
