Much of life is deceptively shallow. Whatever topic one chooses to read in an endless array of magazines, whether it be the lives of the rich and famous or even advertisements for the latest toys or gadgets, so much is superficial.
When Jesus introduced himself to Peter the fisherman (the story can be found in Luke Chapter 5 ) Jesus said to Peter "Go out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch". Peter did just that and the catch of fish was so great, it started to break the fishing net.
It is only when we 'dig deep' do we start to learn the truths of God's love and care for us. Isaiah Chapter 40 is a wonderful example of this, with such gracious yet powerful descriptions of God's love. Many times in the Old Testament we read of a God who is 'patient and forgiving and abounding in steadfast love'. And look at the way Jesus challenged the established thinking of his day, by showing love to those whom the religious leaders and society so despised.
Don't be afraid to question what you hear: think through what you read and delve into the truths of the Bible in order to see how relevant they are to our every day lives.
So, forget the warm fuzzies and sentimental thoughts and go searching.
Happy Digging.
